Driving for Work Law

Did you know that as an employer of five or more, you have a the same duty of care for your staff whilst driving on company business, as you do for all other work related activities?

The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 requires that you do, and for all others who may be affected by their business activities, which, in the case of driving means all other road users!

Did you also know that you are required to carry out a risk assessment to cover driving and to make all the necessary arrangements to implement  necessary measures, appoint competent people and arrange for appropriate information and training?

The Management of Health & Safety Regulations at Work 1999 requires that you do!

Did you know that you are responsible for basic health and safety and welfare issues including traffic routes for vehicles operated by the business?

The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare Regulations) 1992 requires that you do!

Did you know that you or your business will be liable under for certain offences committed by your drivers whilst acting in the course of their employment, on company business?

The Road Vehicles (Construction & Use) Regulations 1996 says that you will!

Did you know that if you phone an employee or colleague whilst they are driving, even if you don’ know they are driving, you will be guilty of causing the use of a mobile phone whilst driving and you personally could receive a fine and 3 penalty points on your driving licence?

The Road Vehicles (Construction & Use) (Amendment) (No. 4) Regulations 2003 says you will!
